Degree
Associate's

An Associate's degree is your first step towards specialization in your career and it will typically take 2 years of your time. You can pick from a wide variety of subjects although not all are open at this level.

When you sign up, you can choose between a transfer, or a technical/professional degree. The transfer degree is intended to be a stepping stone towards a Bachelor's degree which can be taken on completion of the Associate's degree or at a later date. The technical/professional degree is an end in itself and the students who take it normally do so with the intention of immediately starting work in the relevant industry.

An Associate's degree is further divided into an Associate of Science or an Associate of Arts.

The principal advantage of an Associate's degree is that it only takes 2 years - about half of that required for a Bachelor's. Of course, the time taken depends upon the intensity of the studies and whether any re-sits become necessary.

Despite its relatively short duration, passing an Associate's degree can make a very significant difference to salary expectations.
